The World- Wide Web with its display of text, images, and multimedia has been the driving force behind the huge increase in the number of worldwide Internet users in the short time of the Web's existence. But the Web has become a powerful catalyst for profoundly important social change. Individuals and virtually every type of business, governmental, educational, and political organization have become part of the Web and the capabilities that set it apart from other media forms.
The purpose of this book is to understand how the introduction and growth of the World Wide Web has changed society. Understanding the Web focuses on three broad dimensions: social aspects, political aspects, and economic aspects.
