摘要
Radiology for Dental Auxiliaries presents the basic principles of clinical radiology for students in dental hygiene and dental assisting programs. This well-established, comprehensive textbook also provides a good review for the interpretation of radiographs and trouble-shooting errors for practicing hygienists and assistants. Topics include: basic x-ray generation, image formation, film mounting, biologic effects of radiation, lesions, infection control, film processing and interpretation, intraoral and extraoral techniques, panoramic radiography, patient management, and legal considerations.

This seventh edition is a good teaching tool for dental radiology. Previous editions were published in 1974, 1978, 1983, 1987, 1992, and 1996. The purpose of this latest edition is to show marked changes over the preceding editions. It shows ever-changing, up-to-date, and improved techniques. These are worthy objectives. This book contain 463 pages of clear, concise, and descriptive material with 595 illustrations. This by definition meets the author's objectives. This book is written primary for dental hygienist and dental assistant students. According to the authors and in my judgment, it would be beneficial for any one wishing a refresher course. I believe the author is a credible authority on all the subject matter presented, as he is currently working in the field of continued dental education. This book covers basic techniques for imaging radiographs, infection control, old and new digital imaging, processing, the mounting of dental films, operator and patient protection, intra oral radiographic techniques, and extraoral techniques. This book teaches interpretation verses diagnosis, patient management, and the recognition of oral lesions, peripheral lesions, and salivary stones, just to mention a few. This good book is needed for the dental auxiliary professional, hygienist, assistant, and student. I like the soft cover even though the colors are kind of dull. I especially like the chapter on legal considerations. The glossary is good and can be useful. The illustrations are adequate; there are both black-and-white and two-color. The index is concise. This book is valuable and should be on library and dental school bookshelves and in bookstores. Vera Ann Smith, CDA(University of Chicago Medical Center). Copyright 2001, Doody Publishing
