《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
Each of six books introduces a familiar topic to children, such as eating or playing, then demonstrates how zoo animals do these things. The clean design features a simple text facing an expressive photo on each double-page spread. For the most part, the color photos are clear and appropriate. Ind. 《书目》(Booklist)书评
Ages 3^-8. This author/photographer team has collaborated on numerous animal books, and its experience serves the pair well in this new Zoo Animals series. Each title focuses on a narrow topic, such as the way zoo animals play, eat, or sleep, with one simple sentence on each spread alongside a color photograph. Arnold chooses her limited words carefully, so the text vividly reinforces the image: "A peacock screams." At the end, she ties the animals together, drawing parallels between the animal activities and those of the young audience. Hewett's crisp color photographs are certain to delight with their lively images, from the lion's scary teeth to the elephant's trunkful of food to an oh-so-cuddly sleeping fox. The series makes a fine choice for reading to preschoolers, for young readers to practice their skills, and for primary-grade students to begin learning to use an index. See the Series Roundup in this issue for other titles.--Susan Dove Lempke
