《书目》(Booklist)书评
Gr. 7^-12. Greenhaven branches out in its Opposing Viewpoints series by tackling a topic that may not be a social issue itself but brings many of them to the forefront. The 30 point and counterpoint essays cover five general areas: children and sports, college athletic reform, racial discrimination, gender inequality, and drugs. As always, writers from many different fields are included, all of whom share strong opinions and usually present compelling, thought-provoking arguments. The section on children offers little that students won't already know, but later sections, especially on such issues as minority coaches, Title IX, and China's use of banned drugs, provide much eye-opening data for research papers or speeches. Consistent with previous books in the series, introductions to each essay focus on the author's point of view and suggest questions to consider while reading. Questions for group discussion, a list of organizations to contact, and a bibliography are appended. --Roger Leslie
