《学校图书馆杂志》(School Library Journal)书评
Gr 4-6-These books contain excerpts from actual childhood journals and diaries, misspellings and all. The editors provide further background information on the times and the customs. Photos and reproductions are attractively interspersed throughout. Girlhood Diary records Alcott's life from ages 11 to 14, and offers her observations, information about the abolition movement, the lifestyle at Fruitlands, etc. Through samples of her poetry, readers see Alcott's talent blossoming even at that early age. Roosevelt chronicles the family's yearlong trip to Europe when the future president was 10. Scattered references in the journals make note of his continued problems with asthma. His interest in wildlife is also evident from the writings and the supplemental material. This book is more difficult to follow than Alcott because of the many spelling errors that are left intact.-Roxanne Burg, Thousand Oaks Library, CA (c) Copyright 2010. 《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
An introduction and afterword provide biographical details about the young diarist that fill in some of the details that the sketchy entries leave out. Archival photos, crafts and recipes, sidebars, and directions for beginning a journal make up just as much--if not more--of the books than the actual text. Lindbergh and Roosevelt chronicle their travels, while Gág and Alcott's writings offer greater insight into the girls' characters. The appended time lines are of little use. Bib., glos., ind.
