Gr 6-10-This well-written, well-researched title begins with a discussion of predynastic Egypt and concludes with the death of Cleopatra. Individual chapters cover the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms. Pyramid building, gods and goddesses, warfare, and medicine and magic are among the topics considered under these headings. The final chapter provides background on early Egyptologists and archaeological explorations, and the influence of this ancient culture on the modern world. Boxed sidebars provide additional information on such topics as pyramid building, mummies, medicine, and military life. The average-quality, black-and-white photos, maps, and reproductions highlight important points in the text.-Carol Wichman, formerly at Northridge Local Schools, Dayton, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
