Since the 2nd ed. of this book dates from 1989 (1st ed., CH, Jan'84), an updated edition is very welcome. An excellent core list of titles for business libraries, it lists books published as late as 1993 and 1994, notes major changes in standard sources, summarizes authority and scope, and offers brief but useful evaluations. A list of 200 basic reference sources can serve as a checklist for building a business library. A second section consists of an annotated bibliography of articles on business librarianship, 1976-94. Section 3 is a collection of subject essays by librarians on issues of interest to business librarians, covering a variety of subjects (e.g., acquisition, training, and online databases). This very useful text for all types of business librarians could also serve as a textbook for courses in business reference. It would be more useful if it were updated more frequently. Recommended for undergraduate and graduate collections. I. I. Ringland; Rosary College

This new edition preserves the objectives of the 1983 and 1989 volumes but updates and revises the second edition (Pro-fessional Reading, LJ 4/15/89). Numerous new titles have been added as well as obsolete or out-of-print titles deleted. The 200 titles now included have a total cost of $38,000, so obviously librarians will still have to be selective. The review of business reference literature now covers the years 1976-94, a time period that has seen the business section grow in importance to patrons. Online business services have multiplied and increased in usefulness; Sharon L. Criswell improved and updated that section. Another area of growth and importance is the chapter on "The Best Investment Sources" by Barbara A. Huett. The Investment Bookshelf list alone will endear librarians to investors, as passbook savings no longer provide even a hedge against inflation. Buy wherever possible and share with colleagues-no other collection depends so much on currency.-Susan Awe, Jefferson Cty. P.L. System, Arvada, Col. (c) Copyright 2010.
