Vogt's engaging book explores key questions about tolerance as it relates to schooling. The author asks: What is tolerance? Is it learned? If so, how? Can it be taught directly? After providing thoughtful answers to these questions, the author explores the implications for educational research, policy, and practice. Well considered, well documented, and stimulating, this text is mercifully free of the simpleminded preaching that characterizes too many books on this and related subjects. It even provides a short history of tolerance and very useful references. Highly recommended for all collections. G. K. Clabaugh; La Salle University
