This informational book includes a wide variety of topics that offer direction in providing home care services for the elderly. It is written particularly for the nurse who is new to home care, but can also be used by nurses with experience in the field. While more books of this type are becoming available, the editors here emphasize both home care and elder needs in one text. This book was written for nurses embarking on a home care nursing career, though they may have had experience in other healthcare settings. It will be most useful and meaningful to these new to home care. The information presented is concisely written and covers numerous topics significant in the field of home care. Basic foundations of home care for elders, wellness, common home care issues, and specific diagnoses are included. The index is useful; some tables provide additional explanations (such as helpful tips to make ADLs easier for elders). References are included at the end of chapters, some have more depth than others. Chapter contributors have expertise in each area. This resource will be especially useful for a nurse new to home care. It provides an easy to read overview of pertinent topics with a focus on needs of the elderly. As more home care books and manuals become available, this is a helpful, portable option for nurses making the transition to home care and a wise addition to agency libraries.
