摘要
摘要
Here is the first geriatric nursing book to incorporate standardized nursing diagnoses (NANDA), nursing sensitive out-comes (NOC), and nursing interventions (NIC) systems that are rapidly becoming universal standards. Readers will learn why the use and documentation of nurse's decisions and actions using these standardized languages is essential in the development of evidence-based practice, and to influence health policy decisions affecting older adults.

This book clearly articulates how to move from nursing diagnosis to outcomes with evidence-based interventions targeted to elderly individuals. The authors have created a much needed book that begins to link a growing body of gerontologic research within the parameters of diagnosis, outcome and intervention. A wide audience of nursing students, educators, or practitioners with an interest in older adult care can benefit from this text. Organized according to Gordon's Functional Health Patterns, each chapter synthesizes current knowledge regarding older adult care by presenting the relationship between the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association Classifications, and the emerging Nursing Outcomes and Interventions Classifications. The information is clear and clinically relevant. A wide variety of topics are covered except for end-of-life care. A summary of defining characteristics, related etiologies, nursing-sensitive outcomes, and interventions conclude each chapter, providing a concise reference. Readers are invited to contribute to new or revised nursing interventions and outcomes. This is a first of its kind reference that substantiates the impact of nursing interventions on the health outcomes of older adults. The authors put the NANDA classifications in a meaningful context by documenting their relationship to new evidence-based nursing outcomes and intervention classifications. A more cohesive body of knowledge for older adult care is presented that will guide the future of nursing practice and research.
