This is a long-awaited second edition of this book, the first edition having been published in 1980. It is a compilation of clinical, pharmacological, and pharmaceutical data of marketed and investigational agents used in the oncology setting. It also includes a few chapters on pharmacological considerations and drug administration. The book provides information on mechanisms and clinical use of a host of marketed and investigational chemotherapeutic agents and biologicals. Data regarding stability, compatibility, and administration are also presented. The primary audience is pharmacists, and the secondary audience is oncologists. The book is appropriate for both. It would also be useful in a teaching setting for pharmacists and perhaps nurses. The authors are quite credible, both having made extensive contributions to the oncology literature. The contributors are also active in oncology practice and research. The book contains many monographs not included in the previous edition. It i s well organized, and figures enhance the pharmacological explanations in the text. Like the previous edition, this book can provide information to address practical issues and questions that commonly arise. The extent to which this is done varies from monograph to monograph, however. Most of the monographs reference extensively throughout the text, and this is very helpful. There is occasional conflicting information from one sect ion to another. This book is a valuable addition to libraries and pharmacies. The previous edition is still widely used, despite the fact that it is 13 years old. The new edition represents one of the few books of its kind that provide general information about many drugs in one volume with emphasis on clinical use.
