《书目》(Booklist)书评
An experienced gardener and garden chronicler conducts a tour of the gardens depicted in the collection of New York's great art museum. Her main text devotes separate chapters to the paradisal gardens of several religions, elegant private formal gardens, recreation in the garden, garden structures, gardens of the Far East, botanical gardens, working in the garden, and public gardens. These types and activities are copiously illustrated en passant with artworks ranging from a neo-Assyrian frieze of the ninth century B.C. to George Tice's 1981 photo portrait of a flowering apple tree in suburban New Jersey. Each picture is generously captioned. The whole is a lovely thematic portfolio, only slightly hampered by the fact that some pictures are reproduced so small that certain details are nearly indiscoverable. List of illustrations appended.
