《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
The captioned color illustrations in this European import are generally accurate, but the text contains numerous errors, some of which may be due to the translation from Spanish. Topics covered include the Big Bang theory, stars, planets, and galaxies. The general sequence of events described is plausible, but many of the details are either ambiguous or wrong. Glos., ind. 《书目》(Booklist)书评
From the Sequences of Earth & Space series, these books present information in a highly visual manner, using dynamic paintings, cross sections, and diagrams as well as standard text to communicate their subjects. Gr. 6^-9. Cell discusses the types of cells, their similarities and differences, their structure, and the functions of their parts. Although younger children might learn something from the pictures of cells, the vocabulary of the text would be difficult for those below the indicated level. Gr. 4^-7. Volcanoes & Earthquakes explains tectonic plates, shakes, quakes, tsunamis, and the formation, structure, and eruption of volcanoes. Clearly written and well illustrated, the book will be an asset to elementary and middle school collections and will especially suit children whose learning style is visual. For other books in the series, check the Series Roundup in the Dec. 15 issue. --Carolyn Phelan
