Gr 4-6 Kamen has woven her own investigation of Kipling's life and gleanings from ten secondary sources into a well-written and beautifully illustrated biography that is both interesting and informative. The text flows smoothly as Kamen relates Kipling's life from his early years in India, his depressing youth in England and his life as an adult in India, America and England. Throughout the book, Kamen makes clear the relationship between various incidents in Kipling's life and the poems and the stories that he wrote. Sprinkled throughout the 12 chapters are exquisite full-page watercolors in shades of brown and ecru. They expand on the text with multi-panels tied together with geometric borders. Sure to be a well-read biography. Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, Iowa (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
