《书目》(Booklist)书评
Primarily through its beautiful pictures, this very attractive volume follows the life of George Armstrong Custer, from his early days in Michigan, to his schooling at West Point, to his daring exploits as brigadier general during the Civil War, and to his death at the Little Big Horn as leader of the Seventh Cavalry. The Moellers' text makes no attempt to clarify the life of a complex American hero-- as does Uxley in the excellent Cavalier in Buckskin [BKL O 15 88]. Instead, the authors merely recite the legend as legends are told. Photo captions recount Custer's personal and career moves, with focus on the battle sites. It is the gorgeous color pictures that will invite readers, however: sometimes stunning vistas of both eastern greenery and the plains that first belonged to the American Indian, culminating in a scene- by-scene panorama of the Custer Battlefield in Montana. Larger history or photo collections will relish adding this volume. Includes maps and bibliography. MAB.
