Contending that most scholars concentrate on pre-20th-century Indian history, Iverson has collected 11 articles that deal with post-frontier problems of Plains Indian tribes. They cover topics from water and mineral rights to the Indian New Deal, World War II volunteers, and religion. Although no ground-breaking research is included here, and only one article was written for this volume, Iverson has drawn together an excellent sample of the best work from 1969-83 in a succinct compilation.
