摘要
Approaching anthropology from a Marxist perspective, these articles interpret Native American history as predominantly a conflict between precapitalist or communal societies and an invading capitalist system, not merely as a clash of cultures. Contributors from the US and Canada discuss the periods of fur trade, land cessions, and the reservation education system, and the ongoing struggle for survival and persistence Indian people wage in the face of a dominant state.
