摘要
摘要
Six titles render a view of past civilizations with remarkable depth and clarity. Influences such as politics, war, trade, everyday life, art and architecture, and religion offer insight into how inhabitants of these great cultures lived. Each title highlights the legacy left by the major events and developments of these civilizations. Quotations from ancient sources and modern historians lend a fresh perspective to factual information.

《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
In overcrowded layouts, wordy texts vie for space with photographs of ancient artifacts. Ultimately, the photos of Roman ruins, African sculptures, and Greek architecture prove most interesting. The texts present overviews of the politics, society, art, and religions of the various civilizations. Though informative, the writing is dull. Time lines are included. Bib., glos., ind. 《书目》(Booklist)书评
Gr. 5^-10. With many chapter divisions, and handsome color pictures on every page, these two volumes in the Ancient World series describe the history, politics, ideas, religion, art, architecture, science, and everyday life of two great ancient civilizations, as well as their defeat and their enduring legacy. The volume on Egypt is simpler in style and content than the Incas volume, which includes complex information about the huge Inca empire at the height of its power and during the horrors of the Spanish conquest. Both books end with a timeline, glossary, and short bibliography of juvenile titles. Other titles in the series--Great African Kingdoms, The Aztecs, Greece, and Romeare listed in this issue's Series Roundup. --Hazel Rochman
