《学校图书馆杂志》(School Library Journal)书评
Gr 8-10-- Although highly specialized in subject matter, this book presents material in a manner that will be highly accessible to the intended audience. Following a brief but informative introduction, it is divided into five parts: ``Terms Used in the Field,'' ``Laws and Agencies,'' ``Extinction Terms,'' ``For Further Information,'' and ``References.'' Entries in the first three sections are in alphabetical order and range from one or two sentences to multiple paragraphs. The largest of the three, ``Extinction Terms,'' presents definitions that cover a vast number of subject areas, including endangered species, extinct species and causes, scientific terms, and significant events/periods. Cross-references appear at the end of many of the main entries, as do numbers that correspond to the citations in the reference section. An approachable and useful work in an increasingly important area. --Kathleen L. Atwood, Pomfret School, CT (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. 《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
A small encyclopedia, the book covers biological and ecological terms and identifies laws, treaties, and agencies. The cross-referencing is good, and many entries are lengthy and descriptive, but the writing style is dry and pedestrian. Bib. (c) Copyright 2010.
