A group of six biomechanics specialists from Canadian universities combined efforts to produce this volume on the techniques and procedures used in biomechanics research. Their objective was to encourage a reduction in the diversity found in the use of currently available procedures and in the interpretation of data from the same sources. Problems connected with the measurement of kinematic, kinetic, and neuromuscular parameters are identified and discussed in the first four chapters; recommendations for selecting correct protocols are presented in the final chapter. The authors suggest a multidisciplinary approach as a possible solution to the problem of how to standardize biomechanical testing. Generous documentation is provided in the 186-item list of references, and there is a modest 94-entry index. Equipment and procedures are included in the material illustrated. Approximately one third of the book is given to five appendixes that contain information on standard units and terms, informed consent procedures, and EMG protocols. A valuable and practical resource for those studying biomechanics methods and a frank reminder of the importance of standardization for those engaged in biomechanics research. Appropriate for graduate students and upper-division undergraduates.-R.L. Wickstrom, Ripon College
