Second in a series of ten programs designed to provide sound instruction in the historical, critical, production and aesthetic aspects of the visual arts, presented in animated and dramatic sequences. This episode focuses on how to find ideas for art works. In search of ideas for their own art, host Don Arioli and the Big A children visit a zoo. The children choose animals that visually interest them, study each animal's special characteristics by imitating the way each animal moves, and sketch the animals. Visits the studios of sculptor David Gilhooly and painter Jacob Lawrence to learn how artists get ideas for art. Both artists emphasize the importance of visual awareness and the use of their own interests and experiences. The children look at works of art and speculate about how the artists got their ideas. They discuss ways to turn the ideas they have collected into finished works of art. With liveaction and animation. For ages 6-9 (grades 1-4).
