Sixth program in a ten-part series designed to provide sound instruction in the historical, critical, production and aesthetic aspects of the visual arts, presented in animated and dramatic sequences. This episode focuses on some of the basic components used to create art, introducing the elements of design. A colorfully renovated gas plant provides a setting for the Big A children to find and identify large scale lines, shapes, colors and textures. They sketch a wide variety of lines, paint various shapes, use paper and crayons to get texture rubbings, and duplicate colors with oil crayons. They paint a mural on a defaced tank at the park. To learn about mural painting, they visit billboard artist Jim Crespinel, who demonstrates how he uses the elements of design to express ideas and feelings in his artwork. The children look at works of art and speculate about how the elements work with one another to create moods and feelings. Combines liveaction and animation. For ages 6-9 (grades 1-4).
