《书目》(Booklist)书评
The extensive fires that took place in Yellowstone in the summer of 1988 have raised the public's consciousness about the area. This book profiles Yellowstone--the oldest national park in the world, containing two-thirds of the world's active geysers--as well as the Grand Tetons and numerous wildlife refuges and wilderness areas, which, combined, constitute one of the most intact ecosystems found in the lower 48 states. Ecological controversies such as those relating to logging and mineral exploration are examined, as are those problems created by the wildlife (grizzly bear control, animal disease, and growth of elk herds, among others). A special section is devoted to the recent fire. Includes beautiful color photographs and informative maps; index. --Fred Egloff
