《学校图书馆杂志》(School Library Journal)书评
Gr 6-9Well illustrated with photos and reproductions and accompanied by bright and clearly labeled maps, these series entries are useful introductions to their subjects. Both titles are thoughtfully organized into relatively brief, self-contained chapters that build upon their predecessors and include sidebars of related material that does not fit into the main narrative. Cattle focuses on a key, though short-lived, aspect of the American West, the cattle drive. The Royal Roads shows the spread of Spanish culture and Roman Catholicism via a history of the most important Spanish "trails" in Florida and the Southwestern U.S. Despite a few, sometimes glaring errors (e.g., Cattle Trails has, at one point, 35,000 cows loaded onto only 20 railroad cars), these are attractive and interesting books that nicely bridge the gap between adult-length treatments and the simpler "Eyewitness" style offerings that are so popular with younger readers.Coop Renner, Coldwell Elementary-Intermediate School, El Paso, TX (c) Copyright 2010.
