《书目》(Booklist)书评

Divided into two main parts--analysis and bibliography--this book provides a helpful guide to those looking to purchase and use historical fiction about the American West in their libraries and classrooms. Part one includes an introduction and examination of the genre, while part two is made up of more than 100 books, separated into grades K-3 and 4-9. Individual annotations provide imprint information (title, author, publisher); reading levels; location and date of the story; race, sex, age, and nationality of the main characters; a synopsis; commentaries on the illustrations and strengths of the book; and items for discussion. References and an author/title/illustrator index are appended. Librarians looking for material on U.S. history should also note the "Picturing History" bibliography in this issue. --Barbara Elleman
