If librarians are looking for a one-stop publication on copyright law, this is the definitive work. Unlike Arlene Bielefield and Lawrence Cheeseman's Libraries & Copyright Law (Professional Reading, LJ 6/1/93), Gasaway and Wiant's volume goes beyond print sources and interprets copyright laws for wide area networks (WANs), local area networks (LANs), and metropolitan area networks (MANs) and other technologies, including the Internet. International, British, and Canadian copyright laws, along with controversial issues such as the Public Lending Right initiative and the Texaco case, are also discussed. A well-developed index, an extensive bibliography, and appendixes that answer the more difficult questions about copyright complete the book. The authors, who are law library directors and frequent lecturers on this subject, have written a most informative and readable treatise on such a confusing topic. This is a required purchase for all libraries. [See "The Great Copyright Debate," p. 34-37, in which Gasaway faces off against Association of American Publishers' Carol Risher.-Ed.]-Rebecca A.
