Gr 9 Up-- Despite some minor inaccuracies, these well-researched and well-organized books cogently explain complex scientific, political, and social issues. While Bilger presents the doubtfulness of some of the conclusions concerning global warming, he does take the view that it is occurring, and as a result of human activity. Sources of additional information are included. The few black-and-white photographs and diagrams are adequate. Tesar's Global Warming (Facts on File, 1991) is comparable, but with more pertinent and clearer illustrations. The Greenhouse Effect by Harris and The Ozone Layer (both Crestwood, 1990) by Duden are for slightly younger readers. --Meryl Silverstein, American Museum of Natural History, New York City (c) Copyright 2010.
