Gr 3-5-- A large-format tour of ``Spaceship Earth,'' with slapdash cartoon illustrations and a breezy text full of misprints, drastic oversimplifications (``The atmosphere is made up of four gases''), and vague advice (``Check that the wood preservative is applied properly and is wildlife friendly, especially to bats''). Bellamy steers readers quickly past a history of our planet to a look at its ecosystems and our abuses of them, then closes with a vision of a future that will be idyllic once people learn to conserve, recycle, and restore. Although this may have some value as a middle-grade consciousness-raiser, books such as Elkington's Going Green (Viking, 1990) contain more specific agendas. --John Peters, New York Public Library (c) Copyright 2010.
