Gr 7 Up-The film depicts a group of professional divers as they swim unprotected among sharks and barracuda. A lengthy introduction of footage of sharks swimming leads to comments by shark experts and divers. The majority of the program contains underwater scenes which provide visuals to random narration and comments. Although the images of the divers are initially fascinating, there is much repetition and not enough substance. In addition, there is an overall amateur feel, with some poor quality sound, especially in the interview segments. Some of the program seems to be little more than a commercial for the Klein family, as the script frequently refers to movies in which they have played a part and a detailed description of the underwater camera they designed. Students may be intrigued at first but will quickly lose interest as the diving segments continue too long, doing little more than glamorizing the thrill-seeking divers who face very dangerous conditions. More precise editing and better organization of information would have made this much more usable in science classes.-Susan McCaffrey, Haslett High School, MI (c) Copyright 2010.
