In this book, Jan Bellows outlines the knowledge and equipment required to provide current standard-of-care oral assessment, treatment, and preventive care to feline patients. With its comprehensive descriptions, photos, and illustrations, this book will be a seminal reference for feline dentistry. Veterinarians can be frustrated by the limited number of books available for single species. In this one, Dr. Bellows isolates current diagnostic and treatment strategies for oral problems in cats. Backed by years of experience as a specialist in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, he has assembled the most relevant research and the newest developments in instrumentation and technology in one fine reference. Well written, with beautiful images, this book will be a go-to resource for veterinarians establishing or enhancing their feline dentistry practice. Readers will appreciate the detailed review of anatomy and oral examinations, as well as recommendations for specialized dental equipment. Up-to-date treatments for the oral diseases most commonly suffered by cats, such as resorptive lesions, stomatitis, and cancer, are examined following discussions of diagnostic plans. Step-by-step outlines with accompanying photographs guide readers through complicated procedures such as full mouth extractions. Some basic techniques for extractions of teeth may be described more fully in other books. The book is enjoyable to read, descriptive but to the point, with scarce typographical errors. This is an outstanding dentistry book in terms of detail, information, and ease of reading. The photographs and illustrations enhance the text, offering a deeper and more complete understanding of the field of feline dentistry, its pitfalls and successes. The high quality and quantity of the images is unique to this book, especially when compared to classic yet older reference books, such as Veterinary Dentistry: Principles and Practice, Wiggs and Lobprise, (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 1997).
