Known to parents for her Parent's Guide to Children's Reading [BKL Ja 15 83] and to librarians and teachers for her poetry anthologies, lectures, and workshops, Larrick now offers an inviting handbook based on her experiences with children and poetry. Subtitled "Introducing Children and Poetry through Listening, Singing, Chanting, Impromptu Choral Reading, Body Movement, Dance, and Dramatization," the text provides choice poems along with practical ideas for using them in active, involving ways. Preschool, elementary, and middle school teachers who want to include more poetry in the classroom will appreciate the hundreds of concrete suggestions Larrick includes as well as her clear writing and upbeat presentation. Librarians, storytellers, parents, scout leaders, and others who work creatively with children will also find many helpful ideas.
