PreS-Gr 2-A colorful, kid-friendly cover welcomes readers to this extensive collection of activities. The introduction emphasizes the simplicity of the projects, creating a basic supply and game box, the importance of spontaneity and fun, safety, and readily available materials. Chapters center on four places familiar to children: the pond, garden, zoo, and farm. Each one begins with a lively poem in large print followed by units consisting of "Let's Sing," "Let's Create," "Let's Play," and "Let's Draw." The more than two dozen crafts can be completed in two to seven steps. Twenty-seven familiar songs and melodies include "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "This Is the Way We Plant Our Garden," and lively animal tunes. A number of games are introduced as well. "Nature Notes" gives brief but interesting trivia, and sidebars list two to five picture books related to the topic. Color illustrations appear on every page. A fun and popular addition that will provide teachers, librarians, and parents with lots of theme program or party suggestions.-Augusta R.
