When Bess Throckmorton attends a family reunion with her aunt Ellie in London, she meets an ancient bearded relative. During her visit to the tower of London, she discovers her relative is none other than Sir Walter Raleigh, or rather his ghost, who persuades her to take him home with her to Devon.
