摘要
This major reference offers convenient, rapid access to essential guidance on all types of diagnostic testing performed in the clinical laboratory. It encompasses clinical hemostasis, chemistry, immunology, hematology, immunohematology, microbiology, coagulation, urinalysis, mycology, virology, and cytogenetics. Abundant charts, algorithms, bulleted lists, and subject headings complement brief, to-the-point passages of text to make information remarkably easy to find and easy to read.

This manual of clinical laboratory science includes sections on blood collection and anticoagulants, clinical chemistry, immunology and immunohematology, microbiology, urinalysis and body fluids, hematology and hemostasis, and specialty areas (clinical mycology, virology, molecular diagnostics, and cytogenetics) with appendixes on laboratory information systems, mathematics, statistics, and safety. The intent is to present considerable detail in a concise format for students, scientists, and practitioners in a time of laboratory restructuring and the attendant increase in use of cross-training and generalists. These objectives recognize current realities and they are sucessfully fulfilled. The manual has a senior editor and several associate and assistant editors, almost all of whom are at SUNY, Stony Brook. It is intended for clinical laboratory students, clinical laboratory scientists, and health care practitioners and it should meet the needs of these groups. The editors and con tributing authors are practitioners and educators in the field of clinical laboratory medicine. Included are the numerous and diverse disciplines in the clinical laboratory. The introductory text for each topic is brief. This is followed by large numbers of algorithms, charts, illustrations, and selected statements, also brief. The algorithms, charts, and illustrations are of good quality. The quality of the format and use of color is effective. The references are current and the manual has an attractive appearance and a hard cover. It should be a useful reference at the laboratory bench as well as the desk. Students of technology, technologists, clinical scientists, residents, and pathologists should find this manual of value. The appearance and format should encourage use and it should be a valued library reference for hospital, clinic, or office as well as in health care education. Robert E.
