《学校图书馆杂志》(School Library Journal)书评
Gr 3-6A lively, straightforward overview of Theodor Geisel's life and work. Although his successes are detailed, his trials are given equal attention, among them are the many rejections he received from publishers; the death of his first wife; and his battle with cancer. Weidt provides highlights of the author/illustrator's journey through a noted career as well as background information on many of his most significant titles. Maguire's full-page pencil sketches capture the subject's appearance and personality as he transforms from a shy young boy to a confident writer. Sources are attributed to a number of interviews and magazine articles; the book does not include photographs of Geisel or reproductions of his artwork.Cheryl Cufari, N.A. Theodor Seuss Geisel apparently always had his own idea of how to draw animals -- and as a young artist, was told to pursue another line of work. The biography reveals him as a true character who didn't like to give straight answers to questions. Weidt's account includes Geisel's childhood, early success in advertising, and best-known children's book creations. Realistic pencil drawings illustrate the text. Bib. (c) Copyright 2010.
