《学校图书馆杂志》(School Library Journal)书评
Gr 4-6-- These three titles continue the series' accessible format, with large type, generous spacing, and a conversational tone. All begin with a basic fact list that includes physical and behavioral information and a map, and then discuss the animals' history, habits and behavior, life cycle, and habitat. Armadillo focuses on the nine-banded armadillo, though other species are mentioned and pictured. Photo captions do not always identify the animal pictured by species. Dragon and Rhino include information on the reasons for their endangered status and on efforts to save them from extinction. The Komodo Dragon stands out, as the author's affinity for the animal is evident. African Rhinos discusses both the black and white rhinos but offers little in the way of comparison to the three other species that live in Asia. Better, although less attractive, coverage is offered in Green & Sanford's The African Rhinos (Crestwood, 1987). The list of further reading is inadequate in Dragon and Rhino , and not present in Armadillo . All three books include good quality, informative color photographs and a lively style that make them appropriate choices for transitional readers. --Susan Oliver, Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System (c) Copyright 2010. Color phot. 'People who move to a new home with their pet armadillo and then turn the animal loose when they grow tired of it help armadillos spread into new areas.' This appalling book on armadillos not only encourages making a pet of a wild creature but also promotes irresponsible behavior and tampering with the balance of nature. A flagrantly irresponsible piece of work. Bib., ind. (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
