PreS-K-- Favorite foods, animals, and toys are included in this volume that invites children to talk about their surroundings. Questions about how they feel when they wake up, what they wear, and what they do with friends are complemented by clear, attractive watercolors of multiethnic children and all manner of homes, outfits, foods, and settings. It's sure to stimulate participa: tion by young readers. --Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010. Each double-page spread explores an aspect of daily living through an open question followed by several small objects or scenes. The small, cheerful pen-and-watercolor drawings feature fields, town, sea, city, park, and trees as well as a diverse and congenial cast of children. 《书目》(Booklist)书评
Ages 2-4. What's your favorite toy? Where do you like to go? What do you wear? How do you feel? What do you like to play? Each double-page spread in this bright participatory vocabulary book asks a question and then provides a number of one-word answers, with individual small, clear pictures. The words are about actions, things, and relationships, and they rhyme or almost rhyme ("happy tired sad / noisy quiet glad"). The cast is varied, and the gender roles aren't rigid (in addition to the boys with bats and balls, there's one hugging a teddy bear and one in the library). The cheery, colorful pictures of lots of objects and a great variety of lively kids get across the message stated in big letters at the start: "Everyone is different." ~--Hazel Rochman
