Bromfield, a child psychologist with the Harvard Medical School, offers a series of essays about the needs and desires of children and their teachers. Although he is not and has never been a teacher, his years of work with children and his marriage to a public school teacher give him a unique perspective on the world of education. Bromfeld believes that the teaching and learning process is a complex interaction among several factors he explores here, including the environment and the psychological and social states and needs of teachers, parents, and children. Although he does not offer references to current research, Bromfield's account would be useful as an introduction to the complex and ever-changing world of teachers and children and as such should be added to all public library collections that support a teacher education program.
