《儿童读物杂志》(Horn Book)书评
Color photographs, cartoon-style drawings, and a simple text introduce to a young audience the basic medical problems of childhood, such as colds and coughs, toothaches, stomachaches, and allergies. While the factual information is generally correct and age-appropriate, the text is uneven in its use of potentially unfamiliar terms; however, many of these are defined in an appended glossary. Gr. 2-4. Kids who've seen their parents refer to home medical books when they get sick now have a guide of their own. Arranged around roughly a dozen symptoms ("I'm Sneezing," "My Stomach Hurts"), each double-page spread offers three possible explanations for the symptoms, along with three possible remedies. An accompanying Science Box graph explains the workings of the related body system. However, this is strictly an overview, and kids will have to go somewhere else if they want any in-depth information. In the plus column, the brightly colored comic-style drawings and informal photographs give this an inviting look. For larger collections. --Julie Corsaro
