This is a fascinating book of great value to anyone with the willingness to maintain an open mind on the subject of work. The editors have assembled an array of opposing viewpoints focused on five topical areas: education, government intervention, labor unions, equality, and work and society reconciliation. These topics are grouped in chapters; within each chapter three or four subtopics are addressed, each with paired opposing viewpoints. The material is freshly drawn from current books and periodicals. In addition, each chapter closes with an additional periodical bibliography, and the text concludes with a list of contact organizations as well as a monograph bibliography. The editors have sought out lucid writers with readable presentation styles. The editorial work on excerpted material is so skillful that it is difficult to believe that the views were not prepared for this specific presentation. The book is most highly recommended for all readership levels. E. Owens Western Washington University
