With more than 15 new chapters and substantial revisions to many other chapters since the first edition (1995), the second edition captures the complexity of contemporary perspectives of multicultural education and issues regarding race, ethnicity, gender, and language. Divided into 12 parts and 49 chapters, the Handbook includes a comprehensive history of the research on multicultural education, and the second edition incorporates new chapters that introduce current developments in areas such as access and achievement in math and science, assessment and standards, understanding multiracial families, intergroup relations, stereotype threat, and critical race theory. Contributors are distinguished scholars in a broad range of disciplines who provide complete reviews of research and scholarship in their respective fields. The disciplines examined range from K-12 education, higher education, international multicultural education, social science research on myriad ethnic groups, and the education and achievement of immigrant children and youth, to name a few. The Handbook can be used by undergraduate and graduate students, K-16 educators, policy makers, and researchers, or anyone interested in examining the historical origins and contemporary analysis of multicultural education. ^BSumming Up: Highly recommended.
