Orr provides a solid factual background, clearly discusses the behaviors that lead to the development of eating disorders, and offers suggestions on how to alter attitudes in order to promote a healthy lifestyle. Written in a reader-friendly tone, the book does a good job of presenting the psychological aspects of these diseases and of sympathizing with the young people who are wrestling with them. The attractive layout features pull quotes, boxes containing additional facts, bulleted paragraphs that summarize information, and black-and-white photos. Documented quotes from physicians and other professionals appear throughout. Readers who are suffering from eating disorders will feel comforted and hopefully inspired to seek more support, while those who are trying to learn more about the topic will come away with a clearer understanding of its complexities.-Kristen M.
