Set on the brink of World War II during a shooting party at a rural chateau, Jean Renoir's witty critique of the French class structure was booed at its opening. Now considered one of the best films of all time, Rules may be somewhat overrated (unlike the director's previous and even better Grand Illusion), but it certainly belongs in any serious collection. That recommendation especially applies to this beautifully rendered DVD package, with fine extras too numerous to mention. (c) Copyright 2010.
