Doody's Book Review
This book is a detailed instructional manual for dental radiography. It is designed for dental hygiene students and assistants so that they can use dental radiography techniques to assist dental practitioners in diagnosing and completing a patient's treatment plan. It is designed to be a comprehensive textbook of dental radiography for dental hygienists and assistants. It is important for these people to know radiography in detail, since radiographs are an essential part of clinical practice. This book is detailed and presented in a very straightforward fashion. The author targets this book for dental hygiene students and dental assistants. It could also be used for entry-level students of dentistry. The authors, based upon the quality of the text, are credible authorities in this subject area. This book provides a comprehensive survey of topics in dental radiography, from information about X-ray machines and films to analyzing radiographs. A particularly outstanding chapter is e ntitled, "Preliminary Interpretation of the Radiographs," which is extremely well written and easy to understand. The various pictures and sample x-ray charts are also quite helpful. This book is well-suited for dental hygiene and dental assist students, and may also be beneficial to clinical dental students. However, this text is elementary and thus unnecessary for experienced dentists. For its intended purpose, it is detailed and comprehensive. Juneseok Lee, DDS(University of Chicago Medical Center).
